FLASH GORDON (1980)
Propmasters feel privileged to be able to offer this simply incredible Ming Royal Guard Costume from the cult science fiction movie, starring Sam Jones in the title role.
Clearly seen throughout the majority of the movie the Royal Guards are highly memorable and significant featured characters. Beautifully designed, the Royal Guards had a visual Samurai like influence in appearance and were one of the highly noted costume designers, Danilo Donati, leading triumphs of exemplarily design.
The multifaceted costume comprises of a quilted affect red jacket and trousers with faux fur affect detailing. Both of which feature internal fixed foam padding to give the appearance of bulk/muscle when worn by the actor. A Helmet, front and back chest armour, pair of large winged shoulder armours, pair of two piece enclosing cuff/forearm armour sections, four leg armour plates and a pair of two piece enclosing shin/leg armour sections. The helmet and all armour sections are constructed of fiber glass. There are two holster leg plates where as the costume only features one but if the clip was removed from the double it would then provide the required flat plate, all be it a double right sided example. Some armour parts feature plating loss and one leg armour plate has a small 'bite' to one corner.
The helmet has damage with some lacking detail. The front chest section lacks the small tubular rocket detailing. The leg armour chord fixings have perished but their location positioning is still evident on the trousers by the still present visible chording knots. The small detailing leather strapping on some armour sections have also deteriorated and on some pieces the metal small buckling for the straps is no longer present. The back armour lacks the three fabric petal hanging detailing section to the bottom edge but one of the armour detailing sections from the petals is present. All armour sections exhibit typical age/production wear.
Undoubtedly one of the most significant pieces of Flash Gordon movie history ever to become available and of museum worthy importance.
